After a few weekends off, we’re refreshed and ready to rally the hot rod troops for a fantastic few days in Raleigh, North Carolina! The 4th Goodguys North Carolina Nationals kicked off this morning as a thunderous herd of rods, customs, muscle cars, classics, tricked-out trucks and other specialty machines came roaring into the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, revved up and ready for three days of full-throttle excitement!

We got an early start on the weekend last night with a kickoff party at Raleigh Speed Shop. It was a first-rate affair filled with fine rides, great tunes and good grub from local food truck vendors. We witnessed North Carolina hospitality at its finest, which was a great way to get primed for a fun-filled, sun-filled hot rod weekend.

This is our first trip to the Eastern U.S. since last October, and we can tell that rodders here had a busy off season based on the number of fresh rides we’ve seen. Beyond the new builds, we’re also seeing plenty of fantastic next-generation machines as gearheads respond enthusiastically to our new 1987-and-earlier cutoff. There’s a great variety of squarebody pickups, Trans Am’s, Foxbody Mustangs and other cool ’70s and ’80s machines mingling with the earlier iron here on the event grounds, and it’s a beautiful sight!

Naturally, we’ve got a full schedule of activities on tap for the weekend. Jonathan Goolsby of Goolsby Customs is here to select the Builder’s Choice Top 10 for the weekend, while our awards team will be looking for finalists for several Goodguys Top 12 awards. There will be burning rubber tomorrow afternoon during the Burnout Competition, ground-shaking power on display at the Nitro Thunderfest, and crash-’em-up, smash-’em-up action during the Saturday-evening Demolition Derby.

AutoCross action is also in full swing this weekend with a jam-packed roster of corner-carving racers. The FM3 Cars & Cones Road Trip wrapped up its weeklong trek from Jasper, Indiana, here in Raleigh, bringing an expanded group of competitors to the event. There’s sure to be some fierce competition leading up to Saturday’s Rumble in Raleigh presented by BFGoodrich, so you’ll want to stay tuned for that!

If you’re anywhere in the area near Raleigh, you’ll definitely want to make your way to the North Carolina State Fairgounds this weekend. Beyond thousands of cool cars, there will be plenty of automotive vendors on site, a swap meet and cars for sale corral, kids’ activities, an indoor car show, and much more! Come on down and check it out, or stay up to speed on Goodguys social media or right here at
