What if you threw a hot rod party and everybody came?

That’s kind of the way the Goodguys PPG Nationals – celebrating its 20th year! – is turning out for 2017. The Ohio Expo Center is filling to the brim with the nation’s hottest rods, sickest street machines and all manner of pre-’73 automotive mayhem. All your friends are here. This is the show we’ve been building toward all summer, and this weekend in Columbus promises to be a double-decade celebration like no other!

For starters, the annual Street Rod of the Year and Street Machine of the Year competitions have brought out some major heavyweights. We’re talking about the top builders from across the land, all bringing their latest creations to vie for two of our industry’s most prized awards. All the big names are here. It’s some killer competition, and the cars are nothing short of amazing. Stay tuned for what promises to be a blowout awards ceremony Saturday night when we announce the winners.

Speaking of big names, the PPG Nationals’ 20th anniversary is also the setting for the Goodguys Trendsetter Reunion. This all-star get-together is bringing together past winners of the Goodguys Trendsetter Award, an annual recognition bestowed at the SEMA Show upon the industry’s most notable up-and-coming young talents. The roster includes some of the biggest names in the hot rod game – guys like Alan Johnson, Tim Strange, Dave Lane, Ringbrothers, Eric Brockmeyer and Eric Peratt. Most of them have brought a past creation or two to show off, which means Cardinal Hall is filled with some iconic, trendsetting iron.

Out on the AutoCross track, the American iron is cranking up the rpms and dodging cones. Each of the Street Machine of the Year contenders has taken a turn on the track, which is truly a spectacular site. Beyond that, the top PRO class drivers are here duking it out and prepping for Saturday’s Sponsor Shootout – a 16-driver showdown with one prize and bragging rights on the line. The cars are fast and the action is furious – it’s a thrill for spectators and participants alike.

Beyond all that action, Columbus has the biggest vendor turnout of any event on the Goodguys calendar, and a New Product of the Year competition showcasing the best the automotive aftermarket has to offer. There’s also a massive swap meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, live music, valve cover races, kids activities and the sinus-clearing, ear-ringing Nitro Thunderfest. If you like having fun with cars, this is the place to be!

An Ohio thunderstorm rolled through this afternoon, shortening today’s fun a little bit, but the rest of the weekend forecast calls for picture-perfect sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Anniversaries like this only happen once – and this is one you don’t want to miss!
