Hot rodders from around the country had more than just their independence to celebrate this week. They got their engines running and rolled toward Columbus, Ohio to commemorate one of the biggest automotive holidays around – the Goodguys 21st PPG Nationals!
Much like the night sky on Independence Day, there was plenty of rumbling and bright colors as thousands of vintage rides rolled into the Ohio Expo center over the past two days. We kicked off the event festivities Thursday with a fun poker run, a casual show ‘n’ shine in the registration lot, and a fun-filled kickoff party at the Crowne Plaza host hotel. Old friends came together and new bonds were made as a celebration of the all-American hot rodding tradition commenced once again in Columbus.
Among the sea of machinery rolling into the Ohio Expo Center today were a select group of car owners and builders vying for two of Goodguys’ top honors – the Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year award and PPG Street Machine of the Year honor. There’s always a strong field of contenders for these prestigious titles, and this year is no exception. The 15 Street Rod of the Year candidates are shown below – you can see the field of 13 Street Machine of the Year hopefuls over at FuelCurve.com.
Speaking of chasing awards, there’s a huge field of AutoCrossers vying for both class awards and spots in the 16-car Summer Shootout tomorrow. First, though, we’ll host our annual Sponsor Shootout, with some of the top drivers racing for fun and bragging rights as they represent our valued Goodguys AutoCross sponsors.
The weekend is just getting started and it promises to be one for the record books! With sunny skies, mild summer temperatures, and thousands of the coolest cars from across the country, the PPG Nationals will be hosting quite the 21st birthday bash. If you’re anywhere near Columbus, you owe it to yourself to join the celebration!
