If you’re looking for signs of spring, Scottsdale, Arizona is a great place to be this weekend. Blooming colors are taking over the desert landscape in the form of brightly painted hot rods, customs, classics and muscle cars!
After an exciting season kickoff last weekend in Texas, Goodguys is keeping the party rolling at the 9th Spring Nationals at WestWorld of Scottsdale. The action started yesterday, with a Hot Rod Tour taking hundreds of rods to a series of five shops around the Valley of the Sun. It was the perfect way for rodders to get their rides out of off-season hibernation and back out on the road where they belong. And it was great to see so many cool cars in the works at the shops we visited.
The Thursday tour served to build enthusiasm for the weekend, and when the gates opened before dawn this morning there were eager rodders ready to fill the lush WestWorld polo fields. Everyone seemed happy to be back out cruising and polishing their hot rods and custom creations, and the smiles on their faces were infectious. Can you think of a better way to start the weekend than spending a sunny Friday surrounded by fine rides of all shapes and styles?
The rest of the weekend promises to be just as exciting. Show cars will be vying for dozens of awards, including the coveted Builder’s Choice trophies, selected this weekend by Mike and Randy Way of All Ways Hot Rods. We’ll also be selecting finalists for the prestigious Muscle Car of the Year, Muscle Machine of the Year, Custom Rod of the Year and Truck of the Year Late. There will also be two Nitro Thunderfest exhibitions tomorrow to follow up today’s round of cackling, plus a Burnout Contest to see who can make the most smoke and noise.
Speaking of squealing tires, the AutoCross course was providing its share, with dozens of corner-carving drivers pushing their machines to the limits of grip. The field will be narrowed down to 16 tomorrow for the Spring Shootout presented by Prestone. Expect plenty of action as top competitors pursue the quickest time around the track.
With an expansive swap meet on the south side of the grounds, dozens of performance parts vendors, kids fun, live music and more, the Spring Nationals is sure to get any enthusiast excited about the event season to come. Come on down to WestWorld to check it out for yourself or, if you’re too far away, be sure to watch for updates on Goodguys social media and at good-guys.com.
