Get ready for a deep-fried, Texas-sized automotive spectacle, because Goodguys has taken over Texas Motor Speedway for three days of high-octane hot rod mayhem at the 25th Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals in Fort Worth!
This is the silver anniversary for one of our favorite fall events, and we can think of no better way to celebrate than gathering thousands of our friends and their machines for a weekend of cars, cruisin’ and fun. As the destination for this year’s Hall of Fame Road Tour, we’ve spent the past week on the road to Texas from North Carolina, building up plenty of anticipation along the way. Our band of long-haul gearhead travelers was joined today by scores of additional hot rods, customs, muscle cars, trucks and classics at Texas Motor Speedway, turning the infield of this high-banked oval track into a sea of chrome, color and horsepower. The day started off a little soggy, but the rain stopped by lunchtime and the rest of the weekend promises sunny skies and near-perfect temperatures in the 80s.
Our good friend Kenny Davis, of Kenny Davis Hot Rods, will be scouring the premises on Saturday, looking for top-notch rides to receive his Top 10 Builder’s Choice awards. On top of that, we’ll be selecting finalists for Muscle Car and Muscle Machine of the Year, as well as Truck of the Year – both Early and Late. When you factor in dozens of other awards that participants can vie for this weekend, you’d better believe there will be some choice iron on hand! What’s even cooler is that these fine machines will have an opportunity to blast around the banked oval tomorrow evening in the annual Lone Star Nationals track cruise.
While the show cars get to cruise the oval, dozens of AutoCrossers will be tearing up the cone course, grabbing gears and torturing tires in a quest to turn the quickest time possible. All the heavy hitters are here, and they’re ready to push their machines to the limit. There are also Nitro Thunderfest drag cars firing up throughout the weekend, plus a burnout contest and Brigade FMX performing a freestyle motocross exhibition. If you need an adrenaline fix, this is the place!
Add in Goodguys’ extra attractions like a swap meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, kids activities, live music, and a huge selection of vendors and manufacturers showing off their latest parts, and you’ve got a deluxe event perfectly suited for the Lone Star State. It promises to be a sensational silver anniversary in Texas, so ya’ll better join us if you can!
