Facing a national field of 32 cars and a brand new track layout, multi-time SCCA championship-winning driver Scott Fraser defeated Robby Unser in today’s Goodguys Duel in the Desert to claim the crown of Goodguys 2018 FAST AutoCrosser of the Year.
Fraser accomplished the feat in Bruce Cambern’s original AC Cobra. Cambern has owned the ’66 Cobra since it was delivered in the fall of 1965. With a new 820hp all-aluminum FE engine, Scott broke through for the big win. In 2016, Fraser finished second in this event but today was his lucky day.
Starting from the number-one qualifying spot, Fraser defeated Curt Hill, Mike Maier, Al Unser Jr., Josh Leisinger and Robby Unser for all the marbles running a final round 41.134 to Unser’s 41.446.
“It was a dream day,” said Cambern. “We didn’t have to work on it at all. We just checked tire pressure and that’s it. The last few years here have been a thrash so it was nice to have a simple day of racing and having fun. Scott did an amazing job behind the wheel as he always does.”
Finishing third was Jared Leisinger with a 42.362 to his brother Josh’s 41.364.
The 32-car field was the quickest in event history.
