You can search far and wide in America and not find a prettier region that New York’s Hudson Valley. It’s historic, quaint, lush and full of robust northeasterner’s who know how to party and have a good time. For the second consecutive year, the Goodguys East Coast Nationals in the village of Rhinebeck featured a stellar weekend of automotive fun at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. Long summer days, temperatures in the 80s and a festive vibe was met with over 1,500 colorful vintage cars.

Hot rods, cool rides, vendors and road warriors from across the Northeast and Eastern seaboard rallied to Rhinebeck. Being here again felt like coming back home. Familiar faces, familiar and traditional rods, customs, trucks and classics, the indoor show, the Beekman Arms Inn (the oldest inn in America) – it’s a great place for a Goodguys Get-Down. The fairgrounds are gorgeous! Especially when filled with American iron!

The cars were bitchin’ this weekend. So bitchin’ – it wasn’t easy for Creative Rod & Custom’s Mark Giambalvo to select the Builder’s Choice cars but he did an outstanding job as always. The “big cars” come out Saturday and while parked on the lawn, it very much resembles a concourse style event. Other special weekend guests include the Mid-Hudson chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America. We welcomed the group and their historic automobiles as the weekend’s featured car club. They are both perfectionists and preservationists with many restored and significant cars in terms of historic value and virtue.

25th East Coast Nationals, Rhinebeck NY, Hot Rods in the Hudson Valley, Godguys

One of the coolest event features was Saturday evening’s twilight cruise, and barbecue celebrating the East Coast Nationals 25th Anniversary! Over 70 car, rods, classics and pickups were selected for specific honors too. The Goodguys 2017 MSD Muscle Car of the Year finalist award went to George and Carol Edwards beautifully restored and rare 1969 Yenko Camaro while the 2017 LMC Truck finalist selection went to Scott and Krista Kershaw and their beautiful 1956 Ford F100.

We love coming here. It’s about as far away as you can get from California so we get to see an entirely different brand of hot rod yet the passion and pursuit of hot rodding is vibrant as you will find. The scenery is impossible to beat as is the history located in the Hudson Valley. With the cool cars, great vibe, bustling midway and the event’s Silver Anniversary, the 25th East Coast Nationals was one of the best ever. Rhinebeck – you have provided us with rodding revelations since 1992 and we love visiting you once per year. Thanks to each and every one of you who made the weekend so special!

See you next year right back here June 8-9, 2018!
